October was a month full of celebration at Keefe Memorial Health Services District as we recognized several national healthcare appreciation weeks. These observances gave us the opportunity to highlight the specialized teams whose work directly impacts patient safety, care quality, and operational efficiency every day.

Throughout the month, we celebrated:

National Healthcare Quality Week

This week honors the professionals who work behind the scenes to ensure healthcare organizations deliver safe, effective, and patient-centered care. These teams monitor performance, analyze data, support patient safety initiatives, and help organizations continuously improve. Their work ensures our processes meet regulatory standards while enhancing the overall patient experience.

International Infection Prevention Week

This recognition week shines a light on infection preventionists and the critical role they play in protecting patients and healthcare workers. From tracking infections to implementing prevention protocols and educating staff, these professionals help ensure that our facilities maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. Their efforts reduce illness, keep patients safe, and protect the broader community.

Respiratory Care Week

Respiratory therapists provide essential care for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary conditions—from emergency care to chronic disease management. This week celebrates their dedication, expertise, and the vital support they provide in treating conditions such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and more. Their work is instrumental in helping patients breathe easier and recover safely.

Healthcare Supply Chain Week

This week recognizes the individuals who manage the sourcing, purchasing, and distribution of essential medical supplies and equipment. Their behind-the-scenes work ensures providers have what they need—when they need it—to deliver quality care. From ensuring PPE availability to coordinating deliveries, the supply chain team plays a crucial role in keeping healthcare operations running smoothly.

We honored the dedicated professionals who lead these critical areas at KMHSD:

  • Karen Hooker – Director of Quality

  • Tamela Williams & Hope Batterton – Infection Prevention

  • Brooke Box – Respiratory Therapy

  • Adrienne Steiner – Supply Chain

To celebrate their hard work, KMHSD enjoyed a themed pumpkin carving contest, a door-decorating competition, and plenty of fun and fellowship across the hospital.

We are incredibly grateful for each of these team members and the essential roles they play in protecting and caring for our community.
