Dr. Kurt Papenfus
Kurt Papenfus earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and served his internship and residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital Denver. Throughout his career, Dr. Papenfus has worked to care for rural residents across the state of Colorado; including serving in Meeker, Craig, Rifle, Estes Park, and Basalt. He also has international healthcare experience performing expedition medicine for filming projects, international sports events and extreme mountain climbing.
Aside from hospital medical experience, Dr. Papenfus has served as Medical Director for several EMS districts; including Basalt Rural Fire District and Rifle Rural Fire District. Being a Full Council Member and Chairman of the Workforce section on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, National Occupational Research agenda, Oil and Gas Sector Council gives Dr. Papenfus a different perspective when caring for patients.
Dr. Kurt Papenfus oversees healthcare in Cheyenne County as the Keefe Memorial Hospital Chief-of-Staff and the County Public Health Director. He has worked in Cheyenne Wells since 2013, and is performing research into pain reduction through laser treatments rather than prescription drugs. He also enjoys rehabilitating falcons, playing with his beloved dogs, and spending time with his family.
